Elroy Goes Bugzerk, the first in the “What the Heck Will Elroy Do Next?” series, is a traditional frame-animated interactive adventure that plays like a classic cartoon come to life; smart, rambunctious, and full of heart. Players join Elroy and his trusty hound dog, Blue, on a hunt for the elusive Technoloptera, navigating clever puzzles and wacky problem-solving along the way. It’s the game that first earned comparisons to Rocky and Bullwinkle and reviews praising its spark and charm; and now it’s rebuilt for modern platforms without losing any of its original personality. It’s also just the beginning: Elroy Hits the Pavement, Elroy’s Costume Closet and the never-before-released Elroy: King of the Jungle are next in the Retrogaming Revival, launching on Steam starting Fall 2026.

History

In the 1990s, Headbone Interactive, a small Seattle new media studio, set out to make something different; 2D animated interactive adventures that felt more like cartoon comedy than traditional software. Elroy Goes Bugzerk became the first hit, drawing awards and raves from Wired and PC Gamer alike. For decades afterward, fans kept asking where they could play it again, and finally the band got back together to make it happen.

In 2026, Headbone founder Susan Lammers launched LAMAZAM Studios and reunited with original Animation Director Chuck Gamble and developer Jeremy Stone to restore Headbone’s library of games. Together, they restored Elroy for modern digital platforms, bringing Headbone’s original hand-drawn, happy-go-lucky 90’s spirit to a new generation of players.
